403. View Of The Garden RenTV: С Видом На Сад
Scene One - Section One - Madeline's Office. We see Madeline's fingers typing on a keyboard and a computer screen. Flashback to MPEG of Adrian: Hello Madeline. I'm sorry things didn't work out the way you planned. I'm sure Operations must regret the decision to keep me alive. Madeline: Her beta levels are practically nonexistant. Operations: She was always calm in a crisis. Madeline: This isn't calmness. It's oblivion. Operations: She's conscious, but her mind's blank? Madeline: And the transmission is a bluff. Staged by Michael. Scene Two - Michael's Hideout Adrian: My name is Adrian. Your name is Michael. You told me that, but who are we? What are we? Some kind of spies? Michael: In a way. Adrian: And the people we sent the message to, Operations and - Michael: Madeline. Adrian: Madeline. Operations and Madeline - they're the enemy? Michael: Yes. They captured you some time ago. They made you the subject of an experiment involving mind control. Adrian: Which destroyed my memory. Michael: There's a powerful man who thinks you're dead. If he knows you're alive, he'll help us. Adrian: Then let's tell him. Michael: I've been trying. He's tightly covered. Adrian: So it's hopeless? Michael: I have an idea that might work. Adrian: This powerful man - is his name George? Scene Three - Section One, Munitions Walter is inserting a disk into the wall. Operations taps him on the shoulder and he jumps. Operations: Nervous? Walter: Maybe it's just that last cup of coffee. Operations: Well, I've come here to ease your mind. Walter: That'll be a first. Operations: You're aware that Michael has effectively declared war on Section? Walter: I'm aware there's a war. But I'm not sure who declared it. Operations: The point is, in the past, you've assisted him when he was off profile and still managed to survive. This time, it will be different. Walter: How so? Operations: The situation is hopeless. He's alone and up against the entire resource base of Section One. He will be crushed and so will anyone who attempts to help him. There will be no exceptions. Walter: And that puts my mind at ease - how? Operations: It eliminates choice. Do nothing to help Michael if you want to go on living. Scene Four - Section One - Operations Perch Madeline: The Gelman Process is holding. Operations: How do you know? Madeline: She hasn't tried to contact Michael. In the past, this would have been her first priority. Flash to Nikita, staring at a computer screen in systems. Operations: Are you continuing with the maintenance? Madeline: Yes. As a matter of fact, she's there right now. Scene Five - Section One - Munitions Walter is alerted to a transmission coming in on his computer screen. It's Michael. Walter: Michael! Michael: Is this channel secure? Walter: (types something) For fifteen seconds, but- Michael: Have Birkoff issue a Y directive at 8:00 tonight. Walter: A Y directive? (Walter's reaction gives us the impression this is something severe or shocking) Michael: Then, two hours later, split subchannel 8 and open the tunnel. Walter: But that- Michael: Don't disappoint me. Michael closes the connection. Walter sighs, clearly disturbed. Scene Six - Michael's Hideout Adrian: Why are you helping me? Michael: Because someone else has been subjected to the same process, though more advanced. Her name is Nikita. You knew her once. Adrian: And you think I can help her? Michael: Yes. Adrian: As you can see, I can't even help myself. Michael: The slightest memory might lead to others. Adrian: I seem to remember sleeping. Michael: Did you dream? Adrian: Possibly. No. I'm really sorry, I just can't remember anything. Scene Seven - Section One - Corridor Birkoff: What's this all about? I've got a lot of work to do. Walter: Who would you rather be killed by, Operations or Michael? Birkoff: I don't have time for games. Walter: It's no game. Birkoff: Michael's been in touch? Walter: Yeah. Birkoff: (groans) Oh God. Walter: He needs us. Answer the question. Birkoff: It doesn't matter who kills you. Walter: If it's the only choice you have left, it matters. Birkoff: Section has all the cards. Walter: (nods) Whatever Michael's up to, he's trying to help Nikita. Birkoff: Have you seen her lately? The Nikita we know is long gone. Walter: That's his point. Maybe we can help get her back. Flash to zoned out Nikita again. Birkoff: What does he want? Scene Eight - Section One - Systems Operations gets a call on his cell phone. Operations: Yes. He's here, now? Are you certain? Take him to Committee, I'll be right there. (he terminates the call, turns to Madeline) George is in Section. (Operations and Madeline walk down the hall together) Operations: Apparently the Y directive came from within Section. Madeline: Michael, it has to be. Operations: Why would he want George in Section? Could Michael be inside again? Madeline: Security's too tight now, even for him. Operations: What's he up to? Scene Nine - Michael's Hideout Michael: He's in Section. The tunnel will open in sixty seconds. Are you ready? Adrian: Yes. Scene Ten - Section One - Committee. George stands, seemingly impatient, waiting for Operations and Madeline. They arrive and as usual, he kisses Madeline on both cheeks. Didn't really think we'd be seeing that again after TET, LOL. George: Hello Paul, Madeline. Well, I assume there was a reason for the Y directive? Operations: There was a crisis, however, it's been resolved. George: Resolved? Just like that? Do you have any idea what I went through to get here, not to mention mobilizing three auxiliary Sections? Operations: You have my most sincere apology. The Tangier mission threatened to go critical to the detriment of three other missions. So I decided to play it safe. Once a Y directive issues, there's no way to recall it. George: I know the protocol, I designed it. It does assume a certain minimum level of competence. Operations: I take full responsibility. It won't happen again. George: It better not. Operations: I'll walk you out. (In Munitions, Walter hears a beeping) Walter: Birkoff! The signal's coming in. Birkoff: It's Adrian. A live feed. Walter: Michael wants George to see Adrian. Make it happen now! (Operations sees Adrian on all the monitors. Uh-oh! He starts babbling to George, trying to distract him.) Operations: By the way, did you have a chance to review the Center's latest resource proposal? George: No, not really. Operations: I know you're tired of Section heads crying poor, but I think I have a good case. Adrian: (on monitor) George, it's me, Adrian. I'm still alive. Operations: I'll send a report over to you on Friday. I think you'll find it sufficient. George: Be quiet. Operations: Why, what's wrong? (George starts to turn - he's about to see Adrian) Unnamed Op: Sir, I'm receiving- (BLAM! Operations shoots out the monitor next to the op) Operations: I've told you never to open two channels on a single read. We could have been penetrated. (To George) You see what I mean? Some of these people are simply underqualified. I have a proposed training budget in my office. George: I've wasted enough time already. Section One is making too many mistakes. Operations: I couldn't agree more. Scene Eleven - Michael's Hideout. Adrian: We didn't reach him, did we? Michael: No. He would have opened a link by now. Adrian: Well, I hope I didn't do anything wr-wr-wr (She can't get the word out) Michael: Are you all right? Adrian: Yes:yes, I think so. Oh. What was I saying? (There is some kind of warning beep on the computer screen) Michael: Hide. (An assault team enters, Michael takes them out one by one as usual, then cautiously walks out, gun drawn and looks at the computer) Michael: We're clear. Adrian: How did they find us? Michael: I took precautions but they must have traced the signal. (Michael walks over, looks at a dead operative and then cocks his gun and points it at Adrian) Michael: You're lying. You remember everything. Adrian: What are you talking about? Michael: You have 30 seconds to confirm. Adrian: My name is Adrian. I founded Section One. I was George's lover and before that his superior before I retired. And these dead men are not Section operatives, they're mine. How did you know? Michael: The p-6's. Section stopped using them a year ago. Adrian: It was a stupid mistake. But my organization's fallen on hard times, what's left of it. Michael: Why the deception? Adrian: Freedom. Nothing personal, I just don't like partners. Michael: Well, you have one. Adrian: What makes you think I can help Nikita? Michael: You recovered. You can help her recover. Adrian: Oh, I don't know that complete recovery is possible. The secret is resistance. It's a question of will. They tried to control my mind and I resisted them. I was able to leave whenever I needed to. Michael: Leave? Adrian: When I was a child, my father had a beautiful garden. I loved playing in it. In Section, when I felt the darkness closing in, I sent my mind into the garden where nothing could touch it. Michael: That's how you survived? Adrian: Mentally, yes. Physically, that's another matter. Michael: Can you teach Nikita to do the same thing? Adrian: If we can localize the similar emotions - something she cares deeply about. If I do this, will you find a way to take me to George? Michael: Agreed. Adrian: Then the sooner we st-st-st (She chokes up again) Oh. Oh. (She sighs) As you can see, resistance has its price. What was I saying? Michael: The sooner we start, the better. Adrian: We'll need some way to attract their attention. |
Scene Twelve - Section One - Corridor Operations is walking down the hallway. He gets to Madeline's office and punches the code. Madeline: We just received a report that the chem plant in Saratov is under dark surveillance. Operations: That plant produces anti-invasives. Madeline: Just what Michael and Adrian might be looking for. Which of course we know they know. Operations: You think it's a trap. Madeline: Most certainly. Operations: Then you suggest we ignore it? Madeline: No. I suggest we set a team. Set a trap of our own. (Operations nods in agreement) Scene Thirteen - Nikita's apartment Her cell phone rings. Voice: Josephine. Scene Fourteen - Saratov, The Mission (Nikita shoots at Michael. Michael hides. All of a sudden he sees what looks to be a second Nikita in another place) Adrian: (On comm set) Michael. Michael: More than one Nikita. I can't tell which is real. Adrian: Kill them all. Michael: What? Adrian: All but one. Only the real Nikita is good enough to survive. (One Nikita climbs stairs, holding a gun. Michael surprises her, pops her in the face and pulls up the latex mask to reveal that she's not really Nikita. He then moves on. Another Nikita is walking behind him. He spins, shoots, she goes down. He walks over, looking stunned, obviously praying she's not real, but then sees the mask peeled back. The real Nikita then appears and puts in a heck of an effort trying to kill him. She approaches with a knife drawn and they engage in hand to hand combat. Then, she runs upstairs to get a metal post which she attacks him with . They fight but eventually he gets the better of her and chokes her into unconsciousness, then carries her off.) Scene Fifteen - Michael's Hideout. (Nikita is restrained in a chair in Michael's cabin) Michael: They changed you. Nikita: Something better. Michael: You only think that because you can't remember what you were. Nikita: I remember. I prefer this. No needs, no fears, no desires. I used to think you were like that. But you're not, are you? You're weak. You should let them make you feel stronger. (Michael stands, approaches her) Michael: There was a time when we used to care for each other. Nikita: Well that time is gone. There's nothing you can do to change that If you think otherwise, then you're the one that needs help.. Scene Sixteen - Michael's Hideout (Michael is typing at the computer and talking with Adrian) Michael: Tell me more about the Gelman process. Adrian: It requires maintenance. Drugs, ocular therapy - s-s-s- (She trips up again, recovers) Oh. Both sometimes. When maintenance stops there may be temporary recovery, but this is followed by a relapse and, um, the end result is living death. She'll be feeling the first symptoms shortly. Aphasia, headaches. Then a rapid decline. We have to move quickly while I'm still able to help. Scene Seventeen - Section One - Madeline's Office. Madeline and Operations are standing side by side looking at the computer screen on her wall. Madeline: He took a calculated risk. He succeeded. Operations: It was a mistake to send Nikita. Madeline: She was the only one with a realistic chance to take him. Operations: It's remarkable. We did everything right, yet we lost. Madeline: So it seems. Operations: Won't take long before Michael finds a way to get through to George. We have to find him before he does. Madeline: We're using every available resource. Operations: Give it 12 hours. Madeline: And then? Operations: You know as well as I do. Madeline: That's an option I'm not completely comfortable with. Operations: Twelve hours. Then we push the button. Scene Eighteen - Michael's Hideout Adrian: Hello, Nikita. (Adrian reaches out, tipping up Nikita's chin) Adrian: Tell me what you want. Nikita: Nothing from you. Adrian: Everyone wants something. Tell me what you want. Nikita: I want to go back to Section. Adrian: Why? Nikita: Because it's where I belong. Adrian: No one belongs in Section. (In the other room, Michael goes to the window, looks out, paces) Adrian: They've taken her to places they never took me. Maybe to places they've never taken anyone. Michael: Can she be brought back? Adrian: Oh, I don't know. It's hard to say. I've only just become (she stumbles, has to think) we've driven Operations into a corner. He has only one move yet. Michael: To assassinate George. Adrian: Yes, and he'll move quickly. Michael: We have to locate George now. I need to reconfigure the laptop. Scene Nineteen - Section One - Madeline's Office. She is as stressed out as we've ever seen her. Madeline: I want the hookup now. Tell Frazee it's a matter of life and death - his. Operations enters. Operations: I take it we're not making much progress. Madeline: I located some Agency uplinks we haven't been plugged into. It's being remedied now. Operations: We're not going to find Michael with Agency uplinks. Madeline: No, but used in tandem with our own intel, there's a reasonable- Operations: Madeline, we're out of time. Madeline: Eight more hours. Please. Operations: I'm sorry. No. Madeline: Of all the people on the planet to target for assassination, George is by far the most dangerous. Operations: Then we'll have to go about it very carefully, won't we? Scene Twenty - Michael's Hideout Adrian: They'll target his travel schedule. Transit security is always more vulnerable than fixed point. Michael: When it's over, I'll bring him back here. Adrian: No. I don't want him to see me like this. Look, my memory's failing already. It's really difficult to find the words. If I'm unable to tell him the truth - you'll have no witness. Michael: I'll handle it. Can you track his itinerary? Adrian: Not directly, but there are signs that- (She has a bad attack, nearly collapses) Michael: Adrian? Adrian? George is in danger. We have to help him. Adrian: Yes. Michael: His itinerary? Scene Twenty-One - Section One - Operations Perch Madeline: He'll be in Kurijca at 7:00 Operations: How do you know? Madeline: The situation in the Balkans. Operations: Oversight never secures the admin sector as well as it should. You use filters? Madeline: A Z-screen. Any backtrace will point at Section Three. Operations: Who will execute? Madeline: An independent called the Asni group. Operations: I assume they have no idea we're behind the request. Madeline: Of course not. Operations: Still, it might be prudent that this Asni group be destroyed once the mission is carried out. Madeline: It's already been arranged. Operations: There's nothing more for us to do than wait. (They trade a concerned look) Scene Twenty-Two - Kurijca (A helicopter flies overhead.) Unnamed Op: Sir, your transport's arrived. George walks with several other men. George: The scheduled layover is over an hour. I want that cut in half. A masked operative takes out one of George's men, then another. George doesn't realize it's happening. George: The Center wants our progress report by Friday. Then piggyback it on a level eight subchannel, all right? (The helicopter approaches. Meanwhile, masked operatives are taking out George's men, unbeknownst to him. George walks toward the landing helicopter along with another man who is then shot by a masked figure. The masked man approaches George, pulls his coat off and holds him at gun point. Another man dons his coat and runs away. The helicopter takes off. We see that the masked man is Michael, but it's not immediately obvious) George: Who are you? If you wanted me dead, I'd be dead. So what do you want? (In the air, the helicopter explodes after Jon Cassar shoots it with a rocket launcher. LOL, hey Jon, you get bored directing? Looking good!) George: You saved my life, but you won't tell me who you are. You don't want me to recognize your voice. (Michael says nothing, retreats) Scene Twenty-Three - Section One, Operations Perch. Operations is pouring champagne into two glasses. Madeline walks in and he smiles. Operations: Join me? (He sees by her expression something is terribly wrong. His smile fades) Operations: What's wrong? Madeline: The initial report was mistaken. Operations: We had satellite confirmation. Madeline: The helicopter exploded. But George managed to survive. He's in Vienna now, on his way back. Operations: He'll triple security. We'll never get to him now. Not before Michael does anyway. Madeline: No. Operations: I'm sorry. Madeline: Not at all. You were right, it was our only move. It just didn't work. (He pours another glass) Operations: No point in letting this go to waste. (He hands Madeline a glass. They raise their glasses as if in a silent toast to each other, and drink.) Scene Twenty-Four - Michael's Hideout. (Michael returns. Adrian is lying on the floor, motionless. He kneels, cradles her in his arms.) Michael: Adrian. George is well. Adrian: George? Who's George? Scene Twenty-Five - Retirement Home? LOL Michael, Adrian and the man who runs the place walk together. Adrian: A garden! How lovely. May I look at the flowers? Man: Whenever you like. Michael: She's to receive the best of everything. I've taken great pains to ensure that no one knows she's here. I expect you'll do the same. This will be your monthly fee. Man: Yes, Monsieur. Michael: If there's any trouble, leave a message at the number inside. Man: I understand. Michael: If you fail - I'll kill you. (Michael walks up to Adrian who is smiling in a spaced out zombie sort of a way) Michael: Goodbye. Adrian: Goodbye. Scene Twenty-Six - Section One - Main Floor. Showdown at the OK Corral. Everybody watches as Operations walks through from one end and Michael comes through the other, dragging a catatonic Nikita. Michael: I'm back. Scene Twenty-Seven - Section One, Operations Perch. Operations, Madeline, Michael and Zombie Nikita are present. Michael: I want Nikita put back on maintenance immediately. Operations: Or? Michael: George will be put in touch with Adrian. Operations: Without the drugs, Adrian will die. Michael: Perhaps you underestimate her will to survive. Are you willing to take that risk? Madeline: You tried to inform George before and failed. Michael: I've had more time to prepare. This time the message will get through. Operations: Stalemate. We keep Nikita alive, you keep Adrian away from George. Michael: Plus I return to my former status. Do we have an agreement? Operations: (Looks back at Madeline - they seem to silently agree to the deal) Yes, I suppose we do. There's been increased Red Cell activity in the Ukraine during the past month. The profile will be on your panel within the hour. Prepare for a briefing at 7:00. Michael: Of course. Operations: Michael. Welcome back to Section. Michael: Thank you. (View of Section floor:everybody engaged in usual business:Michael struts in. Elsewhere, Nikita sits in front of a screen, zoned out. Michael stops by, watches sadly. She looks like a kid in front of a Nintendo game - totally absorbed, never sees him. He turns and walks away) The End |
